Personal experience - Exploring Germany

Hello folks!

I am a very lucky person coz I have real friends )))) And I also lucky coz some of them live in other cities and even countries ))))
This year I visited my friend Katya that lives in Halle, Germany. We met each other through handmade - she taught me how to felt and we know each other for about 4 years. She lives in a small town not far from Leipzig and as this year I came for a week (instead of few days last year) we had a bigger programme. We visited few cities during this week - Leipzig, Berlin, Merseburg and Dresden. And of course had a nice time in Halle.

Halle
Small but very nice town where old buildings meet new ones. The most popular public transport is a tram - very comfortable and on tram stops you always can see how long it takes for next tram to arrive. It was a very interesting and fun idea that was used in trams in Halle last year. All stops were announced by different people - old and young, women and men, different nationalities as well. Halle has nice shops and cafes and plus everyday on a central square you can find a small market with flowers, vegetables, fastfood etc. On weekends and on holidays the market become bigger. In my opinion shopping in Halle is not that bad and they even have a wine shop where you find wines from all over the world. Plus cheeses, spices etc. The staff is very professional so I got few bottles from the shop. I like good and tasty food and in Halle I'm always in for sausages, flammkuchen and beer )))) Usually I don't eat white sausages but in Germany I preefer white ones, tried red ones but they are not as tasty. Another love is Flammkuchen - in short I can describe it as a pizza on a thin dough but of course that's not a pizza )))) Be in Germany and didn't try flammkuchen is a crime! ))) And beeeer - impossible be in Germany and don't drink beer as here it's tasty and costs like nothing )))) Beside traditional german food in Halle you also can find tasty local chocolate candies (they have candies with beer) and even local salt!

Leipzig
We went to Leipzig first of all not for all sightseeings but coz of a marathon my friend took a part of. It was a women maratnon - very well organized and for women different ages. The last group was a group of old women with sticks - so called Nordic Walking. Some of them were like about 70 year old. Each and every woman got a rose on finish line and plus a glass of non alcoholic beer (yea guys, that's Germany). After the marathon we walked around Leipzig and also visited The Monument to the Battle of the Nations. In my opinion Leipzig doen't deserve to much time time to spend on. It's kinda boring town with no wish to walk on its streets.  My biggest impression from Leipzig is a frogs sound that we heard in a park where the marathon was settled.)))) It can sound pretty funny but since there are new buildings that replaced a small pond in my town I don't hear that sound anymore ((((

Berlin
I was in Berlin before for a few days. It was my first time in Germany and can't say I fell in love with the country. That time Berlin for me was tooo grey and kinda cold. This time we went to Berlin for one day and even though it was not enough to see everything it was really nice and I saw Berlin from another side. First thing I noticed when we arrived was two men that where trying to move a car ))))) I was so sure that in Germany all cars always work!)))  Our time in Berlin started with amazingly tasty sweets in a small cafe. Guys it costs but it costs every cent you spend! Each and every small cake is like a piece of art! After such breakfast we were walking around city center and also took a bus to get to Brandenburger Tor. The same bus took us to Alexanderplatz later were we continued to walk.(I'll tell you a little secret - we visited Primark shop but we where strong and spent there not more than 30 min. If you don't know Primark you are lucky) In my opinion Berlin is a city that full of contrasts - no one city is like Berlin. And this time I'd say - I'll be glad to come here again for sure! On our way to Halle by bus we had to change the road and it was great as the bus driver didn't used autoban but a road through small towns - guys it was great! All these towns with old buildings...a lot of trees...flowers etc. and even rain didn't damage the impression!

Merseburg
Very small time near Halle - quiet with the only sightseeing - a castle with a raven (yea like in Tower of London :)) The town was almost empty even though it was a national holiday - Father's day in Germany. Empty streets, almost no people... Not my place for living as tooooo quiet )))) So just few photos.

Dresden
The last city we visited was Dresden. I wanted to visit the city coz of the Old Masters Picture Gallery. From my childhood I'm in love with museums and be not too far from Dresden made me to go there. Guys Dresden is love form the very first sight! Amazing atmosphere I hardly can explane by words! All these buildings with old (dark) and new (white) stones, lovely streets etc.... I was impressed the most by Sistine Madonna by Raphael and the fact that The Chocolate Girl by Jean-Etienne Liotard was made by pastels. The most amazing thing about museums that you see in real life things you saw in books or magazines. Will be glad to come to Dresden once again.

Next year we'll probaly will go to another side of Germany that close to France and probably will visit France as well. So stay tuned!

Personal Experience "Weekend in Halle, Germany"

Hello folks!

Last weekend I spent in Halle, Germany as was visiting my friend Katerina. We know each other for around 3 years and it was pretty exciting to come to her place, finally met her husband and spent some time together. We had a plan to felt a bag but weren't succesfull as the wool and the frame haven't arrived in time but we done a lot! Walked in a park, done some shopping, visited a local market, went to play a billiards and open a season with BBQ in the park.

So here are my impressions about Halle and Germany.

It wasn't my first visit to Germany but anyway it was different. First of all it was a small difference on the passport control - in Leipzig airport it's easier than in Berlin :) In Berlin I had a feeling that I'm going to enter trough '"an iron curtain" )))) Like they are not sure I have only tourist plans in my head ))))

I was a very very lucky as it was a really great and warm weather  - when I arrived it was around +22 or maybe even more and everywhere you could see trees with flowers. Can you imagine I even saw lilac!? (in Moscow it was around 0 and pretty cold when I was leaving)

The streets are clean enough and here is the key why it's that - when you buy something to drink you not only pay for the drink itself but also for the bottle and then you can return the bottle and get some money. It's 25 cents for a big plastic bottle and 8 cents for glass beer bottle. That's a really cool idea how to keep the streets clean! I wish we have the same rules here in Russia!

There is no need to talk about food but anyway - guys 0.5l beer bottle costs less than 1 euro!!!! and it's really good beer! And very tasty sausages!!! Plus in Germany it's easy to find turkish shops with turkish food and as I'm keen on turkish food I was on heaven ))) and bought my favorite black turkish olives. And we also have simits and baklava for breakfast. Baklava is not very very very healthy food but who cares when you are on a holiday )))))

A bit about public transport - it's only 11 minutes from the airport to Halle by train and in the city you can use buses and trams. For trams (maybe for buses too but not sure as we used the bus only one time) they use voice tapes from different people - so one stop can be introduced by a woman and another by a child. It's interesting and I've never heard about something like this before.

Another thing I liked is that you can buy rhubarb on a local market and the price is not that high. That's not about that you can buy everything you want but about that in my childhood it was easy to buy rhubarb in Russia and we made some compots and pies etc but now I haven't seen rhubarb like for ages! And don't understand why it's happenning..... Rhubab is not something rare for the place I live in....It's not like some exotic fruits...

Another thing is a local chocolate! In my opinion it's more tasty than chocolate from Moscow. Right before the trip I ate a chocolate candy from Babaevskiy chocolate fabric and was sooooo dissapointed - it wasn't tasty at all (((( But this chocolate from Halle is really tasty and made from high quality ingredients. They even have marzipan chocolate candies that made with dark beer and even though I'm not in love with marzipan I loved them!

One more thing caught my eye and honestly I'm not sure that's a brilliant idea. A lot of people have bicycles and some people have a special baby carriage that hitchs to the bicycle, not in front but behind. In my opinion that's not very safety - you can't see your child as their are out of your eyes and plus a car driver can possible not see your child so it can be dangerous.

Oh and guys I saw an amazing laptop! We visited Katerina's husband's colleague and first of all where impressed by a very comfortanble kitchen but then we saw the laptop! We (me and Katerina) like couldn't speak at all ))))) This laptop gives your an opportunity to change colors of the touchpad and the keyboard and also has another illuminations and you can change the colors as well! The trademark is Alienware and it made me to make a joke - OMG I met my relative!!!!!! That's coz a friend of mine is pretty sure I'm an alien coz I'm not like other russian people - I'm smiling and don't complain )))))

For me this trip wasn't like I was travelling for a long distance but like I was visiting a friend that lives next street :) And I'll be back for sure!
